Chimac Review
If you're on the hunt for an unforgettable Korean Fried Chicken experience in Dublin, look no further than, a personal favourite of ours, Chimac! Our visit here was an absolute win, from the unique craft beers to the mouthwatering Korean-inspired dishes. Not to mention the fact that it is practically at the door of our college here! It’s almost dangerous.
The highlight here for us is always their Poutine! Servings of this are always a bit of an illusion, you get your plate and it never looks like a lot but I always end up struggling to finish it, as much as I would love to.The hand-cut chips are cooked perfectly with a lovely crisp outside and tossed in an aromatic Szechuan spice blend that added just the right kick. The bacon is a gorgeous blend of spice and smokiness, but the star of the show is always the Adobo gravy. It is rich and creamy, pairing beautifully with the ssamjang cheese sauce for a creamy, umami finish. At 13.50 a plate, this meal is a cheap and cheerful option just a few minutes from Trinity College and Grafton Street!
Chimac’s famous poutine
Next, let’s talk about the Korean fried chicken. We opted for their nugs with their delicious hot barbecue sauce (which you can actually pick up in certain stores around the city and online!). Each piece was perfectly crispy, with a juicy interior, with a healthy pour of sauce on top. The sauce had a balanced heat—bold without overwhelming the natural flavour of the chicken. You could taste the care in each bite, from the double-frying method that brought the perfect crunch to the careful seasoning that kept me reaching for more.
To top it off, we went with a Whiplash rice lager to pair with the meal, it’s a beer that the two companies have collaborated on and the results speak for themselves! Light and refreshing, it balanced out the flavours of the spicy chicken and the rich poutine, adding a refreshing contrast to the bold flavours on my plate.
Staff are always friendly here, and food always arrives within a few minutes of ordering. We particularly enjoyed some of the nice indie pop that was in rotation at the time of our visit, its like they knew we were coming!
Overall, this place is a total gem,and a dangerously budget-friendly option for Korean-inspired comfort food. The creativity in the menu, along with the quality of each ingredient, makes for an experience that we can’t stop going back to. Whether you’re a fan of traditional poutine or crispy fried chicken, Chimac will impress you with its unique twist on these classics. Highly recommend!
